Pink Loudspeaker

Pink Loudspeaker is a weekly newsletter about contemporary sound art in the British Isles. It is run by Sound Arts UK, a volunteer-run digital platform passionate about the sonic arts.

Our focus is on contemporary art which incorporates sound as a primary factor. There are many definitions and opinions of what constitutes ‘sound art.’ We take a wide view of the field, including all artists whose practices are focused on sound and listening. Sound artists tend to work across multiple disciplines, producing hybridised works that sit outside of what is traditionally considered ‘music’. Works can take many forms, including sound installation, sound sculpture, deep listening, field recording, sound/audio walks, spatial audio/sound diffusion, new media artworks, radio art, and performance.

There is a thriving scene of such art in the UK and Ireland. It is extremely diverse and made up of a vast network of individuals and organisations whose activities can be found in every corner of our islands. However, sound art practices are under-represented in both artistic discourse and mainstream media criticism, and would benefit from an increased profile. We hope our platform can contribute to this in some way.

We started this platform in October 2023 as a volunteer-run operation and we’ve been celebrating our community weekly ever since. If you would like to contribute to the platform, please get in touch!
