Light Up Leicester
📍 Leicester (various venues)
🗓️ 12–15 March 2025
Light Up Leicester festival returns for its third edition, filling the East Midlands’ city centre with luminous large-scale artworks, performances and interactive events. This year’s programme features ten installations, half of which include sound as a primary element. Ray Lee’s Chorus is one such work, a huge installation constructed of kinetic sound sculptures, including flocks of rotating loudspeakers spinning atop giant tripods. Chorus has been presented countless times since its creation in 2013 but at the Light Up festival, Lee will present a new iteration of the work in collaboration with Darbar Arts Culture & Heritage Trust & santoor virtuoso Eeshar Singh, that offers an experience blending sound sculpture, Western classical minimalism, and south Indian music.
Parisian new media artists Collectif Scale present two kinetic works at the festival: Hulahoop, and Double Flux. Both pieces feature choreographic geometric light forms synchronised with soundtracks written by composer Grégory Sémah.
In the city’s Jubilee Square Atelier Sisu will stage the temporary architectural forms of Evanescent, a massive work where where an array of giant pearlescent bubbles pulsate with light and sound. In the city’s historic town square, artists Gemma Wood & Andy Johnson-Smith will present Henge, an interactive light and sound sculpture recontextualising neolithic stone circles for the digital age.
Light Up Leicester runs 12th–15th March 2025 across multiple sites in Leicester’s city centre. Access to the festival is free!

Chisato Minamimura – Mark of A Woman
Dam Van Huynh – In Realness
Undisciplined Festival
📍 Brighton Dome, Brighton
🗓️ 13 + 15 March 2025
Throughout March South East Dance’s Undisciplined Festival showcases a programme of genre-crossing experimental dance and perfomance across Brighton. There are two works at the festival, where sound and vibration play important roles.
Chisato Minamimura will present Mark of A Woman, a performance exploring historical and cultural relationships between women and tattooing. Minamimura is a Deaf performance artist and choreographer whose work utilises digital technologies to visualise sound and recontextualise sensory perceptions. Her performances present sound and vibration in expansive ways, particularly through the use of wearable haptic transducers that can be worn by audience members.
At the Brighton Dome’s Studio Theatre, Vietnamese choreographer Dam Van Huynh will present In Realness, featuring performer Tommaso Petrolo. The work explores representations of the voice and its role in resistance, dissent, and identity. In Realness has been praised for its intricate use of sound and text alongside expressive choreographic movement.
Chisato Minamimura’s Mark of A Woman will be performed at the Brighton Dome on 15th March. Dam Van Huynh’s In Realness will be presented at Brighton Dome’s Studio Theatre on March 13th. Tickets are required for both events but combined tickets for both performances are available at a reduced rate. See the Brighton Dome website for more information.

Resonant Forms
📍 The Hepworth Wakefield, Wakefield
🗓️ 08 March 2025 – January 2026
The Hepworth Wakefield’s latest exhibition, Resonant Forms explores connections between sound and sculptural form. The exhibition looks at the influence of music on the work of Barbara Hepworth and features many of her stringed, harp-like sculptural works including 1966’s Spring and 1957’s Orpheus. Many other works from the museum’s diverse collection will displayed alongside Hepworth’s sculptures, including Haegue Yang’s resonant Sonic Gym — Milky Coiffered Cosmic Compression, a suspended sculptural mass formed of hundreds of tiny silver bells.
“Music played a crucial role in Hepworth’s creative life. She excelled at the piano from a young age, counted composers among her friends, and by the 1950s, began naming many of her sculptures after musical forms. For Hepworth, rhythm, structure, and harmony were not confined to sound but fundamental to the language of sculpture. Her forms suggest movement and flow, with sweeping curves and open spaces that mirror the dynamic contrasts found in music.”
Resonant Forms runs at The Hepworth Wakefield until January 2026.
