Pink Loudspeaker is a weekly roundup of sound-related exhibitions and events taking place across the UK and Ireland.
Issue #60 covers events for the week of 9th–15th December 2024. We’ve found over fifty sonic artworks, exhibitions and events across the British Isles that you can experience this week.
We’ve been publishing these listings weekly on Instagram since October 2023 and have recently started sharing them here on Substack as Pink Loudspeaker. We post on both platforms every Monday.
These listings are compiled by Sound Arts UK to support the sonic arts community and to help bring the artform to a wider audience. If you find these listings useful please share! You can subscribe below to receive this info as a weekly newsletter. Feel free to get in touch if you have any comments or want to let us know about any events we’ve missed. Thanks for reading!

Towards New Worlds
📍 MIMA, Middlesbrough
🗓️ 19 July – 09 Feb 2025
Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art’s current exhibition Towards New Worlds explores a range of perspectives on sensorial perception. The show presents works from fifteen disabled, D/deaf and neurodiverse artists who articulate their experiences of seeing, hearing, feeling and sensing the world.
Aaron McPeake’s interactive installation Same Same but Different features bronze bells that can be struck by visitors. The bells are arranged in pairs that are seemingly identical but reveal differences in their sonic characteristics once activated. Seo Hye Lee’s [sound of subtitles] considers the representation of sound and silence through creative exploration of captioned audio descriptions.
“The exhibition explores a rich variety of human perceptions and sensory experiences through works of art, which make connections between the artists’ internal worlds and their external environments. The artworks consider issues in the contemporary world, including justice, ecological consciousness, connectivity and care.” – MIMA
Palestinian Sound Archival Resistance
📍 Bread and Butter Lounge, London
🗓️ 15 Dec 2024
The Palestinian Sound Archive is a nomadic archive of musical artefacts from historic Palestine curated by Mo’min Swaitat. After popular exhibitions at London’s Southbank Centre and De Nieuwe Liefde in Amsterdam, the archive returns to London for a listening session at Shoreditch’s Bread and Butter Lounge. These events explore decolonial listening, using media preseveration as an act of resistance. Expect selections of Palestinian jazz, folk, field recordings, spoken word and more.
“Palestinian Sound Archive was born out of the archive and is focused on sampling, remixing and reissuing vintage Palestinian and Arab albums, shedding new light on the richness and diversity of Palestinian and Arab cultural and musical heritage. Swaitat comes from a long line of Bedouin musicians and storytellers, and the archive references his rootedness in music as a means of celebrating one’s culture and sense of belonging. He plays everything from jazz to funk, soul to dabke, field recordings to spoken word, and folk to electronic music from Palestine, the broader region and across the Global South.” – Palestinian Sound Archive
Sonic Laboratory with Ben Swaby Selig
📍 Orleans House Gallery, London
🗓️ 11 Dec 2024
Orleans House Gallery has programmed a number of Creative Laboratory events to coincide with Gary Stewart’s current exhibition ‘A Ripple in Time’ (on until 23 February 2025 – recommended!). For the next event in the series, Gary Stewart will be joined by artist Ben Swaby Selig. Together they will explore themes of land, memory and dub. The event will feature a conversation between the two artists and present ‘Sound Clash’, Selig’s collaborative work with filmmaker Hannah Oliver.
“Sound Clash uses soundscapes to encourage active listening, bridging East London and Jamaica. It combines archival recordings and interviews via Jamaican sonic practices to consider our relationship to land, gentrification and dislocation.” – Orleans House Gallery
